On Sunday, July 17, just after 7:00 p.m., part of the Bluesfest stage blew backwards and collapsed into a crowd of fans in Ottawa, sending thousands running, and some to hospital. The annual outdoor multi-day music festival that takes place in downtown Ottawa was forced to cancel the remaining performances scheduled for the night. Bluesfest issued a statement saying "due to extreme weather conditions, we have regrettably had to shut down all stages for the night.
